John Thomas Gannon

John Thomas Gannon, the son of convict father James Gannon and Mary Phelps, a native-born girl of convict parents, was born in 1831. Having completed his education in Sydney he went on to become one of the first native-born men to be admitted as an attorney, solicitor and proctor of the NSW Supreme Court. Having practised in Goulburn for over twenty years, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly as Member for Argyle in 1881. Ill health dogged his latter years and he died in 1887.
